Greetings

Kuwait

Regular readers will know of our association with a Quick Service and Parts operation in Kuwait. This has continued throughout 2008 and progress continues to be encouraging. We suffered a small setback early in the year when the body & paint operations were banned in that location by the local authorities. However, in some ways this was a blessing in disguise as it accelerated modifications to the workshop where additional 4- and 2-post hoists have been installed which permits more efficient use of the available space.

The web site has undergone a much needed upgrade and now looks more professional but is still being enhanced. Other promotional campaigns have proved successful and significantly increased the regular customer base.

During the year that we have been involved, additional service management has been recruited as well as several technicians. Business growth has also demanded additional investment in equipment. Despite these extra expenses, profits have shown a significant improvement and there are ongoing promotional programmes to generate continued growth.

We are currently in the process of developing the management plan and financial budgets for 2009 and the potential is looking optimistic for the year.

Training
A Potential Site  for the Training School
(already owned by the Client)
During 2008 we returned to visit a regular client in Saudi to prepare a feasibility study to assess the implications of training Saudi Nationals as technicians and in other categories to comply with the Saudisation programme and to benefit from Government sponsorship. Several alternative proposals were suggested and the client is currently considering these. CIP has also offered to assist with certain aspects of the implementation.

Statistics

We undertook a couple of contracts involving the analysis of vehicle import and vehicle parc statistics in Saudi and in Cyprus. These were interesting projects which have resulted in other enquiries which we are pursuing. Data

Shows & Exhibitions

Show
The CIP Stand at Automechanika Dubai
CIP exhibited at the Dubai Motor Show at the end of 2007 and also, for the 4th time at Automechanika Middle East in Dubai in June 2008. At both we received an encouraging number of new enquiries as well as the opportunity to meet old friends.

We also plan to visit the Abu Dhabi Motor Show at the end of 2008 where we have arranged to meet a number of friends / business contacts.

Russia

In October we were invited by a client (for whom we completed a contract in 2006) to visit Moscow to give a presentation for a longer term contract. It took a while after that visit for the client to compare the various bids, but eventually we learned that CIP had been chosen. As we write this it seems likely that we will be visiting Moscow in April 2009 for a few weeks to conduct the first phase of the project. Rolf

Transporting Cars More Efficiently

Car transport and storage damage continues to present problems to manufacturers, distributors and dealers in all (particularly 'extreme') climates and environmental conditions.

Trans-Rak

With the cost of renting and shipping ISO containers dropping as a result of the global recession CIP sees the potential solution for these problems being provided by our associates Trans-Rak International. The  Trans-Rak is a simple, fixed frame system which is fitted into 20ft, 40ft, 45ft, 53ft and pallet wide ISO containers and offers:

Total Security:

bulletShip cars direct from the factory to arrive in perfect condition inside and out
bulletShip cars free from theft, dirt and weathering
bulletEnsure no knocks, dents or scratches
bullet Eliminate handling and trans-shipment problems & reduce delays when moving cars by road, rail, ship and/or Ro-Ro

Simplicity in Operation:

bulletYou can containerise cars with no special skills
bulletCars in the Trans-Rak system are lifted and lowered by means of a hand-held power drill
bullet Trans-Rak adjusts for all car shapes
bullet Raise the Trans-Rak equipment to the roof (out of the way) when not required and use the full space for back loading of general cargo
bulletNo loose parts - Trans-Rak is built into the container for easy control

Other benefits:

bullet

Does not need dedicated car transporters or rail wagons - use ordinary container trucks

bullet

Does not require fork lift trucks or equivalent for loading or unloading

CIP is an Agent for Trans-Rak - please contact us direct for further details - info@cipauto.com

  Beating the Recession

High fuel costs, deepening economic uncertainty and fears of a global recession have resulted in new vehicle sales slumping sharply to their lowest level in a decade. As a consequence:

Vehicle Manufacturers globally are slashing production, as they struggle to reduce costs.

Suppliers are expected to reduce prices as well as cut back production.

Distributors & Dealers are stuck with high inventory levels and limited retail credit facilities and both small and large operations are experiencing financial difficulties.

Used Vehicle Prices are most unstable.

Aftersales Operations tend to freeze spending when recession hits. For a struggling general public, vehicle servicing takes a back seat. This may prove a false economy in the longer term but nevertheless it is a reality.

Many businesses cut costs by slashing expenditure in key elements of their operations, including reducing staffing levels (the accountant’s solution!).

BUT CIP believes that paying attention to ordinary day-to-day running costs can save the pennies and increase profitability significantly.

That is why it is more important than ever to look for ways to eliminate waste (of time, resources & materials) and increase productivity of both facilities and human resources. With this in mind we continue to recommend companies to experience our:

 Continuous Improvement Process

Process

This system was designed to highlight areas within a business where policies, procedures and current practices may benefit from modification resulting in significant cost savings, improved customer satisfaction and enhanced profit potential.

We have enhanced the system, used by the major manufacturers, to make it even more effective and, in fact, we practice what we preach by also continuously improving the system itself!

Our Company differs from many consultants in that we believe that a broad overview of an operation, whilst useful, seldom uncovers the many small areas of lower efficiency which, when added together, make a significant overall negative effect on profitability, CSI and reputation.

The CIP system, as the title suggests, presents clients’ senior management with a series of check lists so that line managers can monitor progress, evaluate improvements and continually amend the action plan in line with changing parameters. Over 100 companies of varying size and location have benefited from the system and, in the manufacturing operations alone, the average annual increased turnover per department has exceeded £500,000 a year at minimal cost to the company.

That is why it is more important than ever to look for ways to eliminate waste (of time, resources & materials) and increase productivity of both facilities and human resources. With this in mind we continue to recommend companies to experience our:

 Continuous Improvement Process

The system is so flexible it is effective in any industry where there is a production or service operation or a supply chain is involved. We believe that:

The next person in any process is the customer for that operation!

In the last recession those who adopted the programme where able to maintain staffing levels as a result of increased productivity and some suppliers found alternative product lines for their under-used production facilities.

For example, a stainless steel automotive exhaust system manufacturer identified that it could diversify and use its tools and equipment to manufacture other stainless steel equipment such as sinks and bedpans for the hospital & medical industry.
