1.  Apprentice Training

We are currently in discussions regarding offering training for apprentices in the Middle East, following a very successful operation training Emirati apprentices for Dubai Municipality. Many Mid-Eastern countries are now pursuing indigenisation policies and this is an ideal way of introducing people to the Industry. At the moment we are concentrating on the training of service personnel to IMI standards so the participants are aiming to secure an internationally recognised certificate and their employers can display these certificates in their Reception areas to prove to customers that they employ professionally trained personnel.

If anyone is interested in this programme, please get in touch with us at .

We are willing to be very flexible but the programme at the moment is aimed at a 1 year full time training course covering both practical and theoretical aspects of vehicle service and repair. An ideal class size is 20 apprentices so, in some cases, several Dealers/Distributors will be joining the same course which will be centrally co-ordinated by ourselves.

2.  Automechanika

In May Ian visited Automechanika in Dubai and had a number of very encouraging meetings with exhibitors, visitors and with long term acquaintances in the UAE.

He also attended a number of presentations conducted by the Automechanika Academy.

Overall, it was a very positive visit and it was good to learn that a number of countries in the region are now climbing out of the recession. This means that, as vehicle sales grow, the pressure is increasing on service departments and several dealerships are looking at various expansion plans and strategies. However, as we have proved time and time again, if the Continuous Improvement Programme is conducted, expansion is not required as it ALWAYS enables an operation to produce much more output from existing premises by working smarter, not harder!

If you are considering expansion strategies, or your service department/workshop is coming under pressure, please contact us so that we can help you overcome your difficulties by conducting this programme, the cost of which will be more than covered by the improved output that will be experienced as a result.

3.  Cameroon

You may be aware that several years ago we, as Consultants to the Motor Industry, were commissioned by the Financial Times (UK)  to write a book on The Automotive Sector of the Middle East ~ see .

We are currently undertaking some similar research (unrelated to the above) into the automotive sector after-sales operations in the Cameroon. So, if you, or any of your colleagues, have any information which you feel might be of interest, we would be most grateful for your input. Subjects in which we are particularly interested include:

# details of the established after-sales market

# types of service machines currently generally in use

# types of tooling currently generally in use

# types of computer hardware & software currently generally in use

We look forward to hearing from you on .

4.  Copernicus

As you may have seen from our website, we are now associated with Copernicus International Consulting Ltd. Copernicus helps companies to achieve sustainable growth by developing their innovation initiatives and strengthening their internal capabilities, so we can work even better together to assist you by adding our specialist knowledge of the Automotive industry. 5.  Institute of Transport Administration

Recently one of our Associates was appointed as National Chairman of the Association, but he remains in close contact with ourselves and is willing to assist us where appropriate. The Institute is focusing heavily on the ever expanding need for compliance with the Road Freight and Passenger Transport sectors of he UK. Please contact us if you require any further details ~ .

6.  Software

We have been continuing to develop the software for smaller workshop operations, as mentioned in our last Newsletter. This is taking longer than anticipated ass we need it to be suitable for such a variety of individual operations.

As we said before, this will be a competitively priced programme (Operating System) which will contain all the essentials for managing the Sales, Service and Parts departments in the business but without some of the more sophisticated aspects which are much less important to smaller operations. We will keep you updated with this subject as it nears completion and availability.

In the meantime, please let us know (  if there is any particular information important to yourselves which you would like us to ensure is included.
